A Visit to Barnham CEVC Primary School – Learning Where Eggs Come From!
As part of Country Side Week-June 2025, we had the pleasure of visiting Barnham CEVC Primary School with two of our much loved Rymer Farm hens. The aim of our visit was to give the children a fun and interactive learning experience about where their food, especially eggs, really comes from.
The children were absolutely fantastic! Their curiosity was contagious, and they asked some brilliant questions about the hens, farming, and how eggs are produced. It was heart warming to see how engaged they were, and we hope we have sparked a few future farmers or animal lovers along the way.
In a perfectly timed surprise, one of our hens decided to lay an egg during question time! The children (and teachers!) were amazed and delighted, it certainly brought the lesson to life and reminded us how special these experiences can be when we bring the farm to the classroom.
Why Farm Education Matters
Country Side Week is all about connecting children with the origins of their food and helping them understand the role that farming plays in everyday life. At Rymer Farm, we feel passionately about giving young people the opportunity to see agriculture up close, even if it’s just through a school visit.
In a world where many children grow up without ever seeing a real farm animal, we believe it's essential to provide these kinds of hands-on learning moments. They foster respect for animals, highlight the importance of sustainable food production, and encourage thoughtful choices about how food reaches our plates.
We would like to extend a big thank you to Barnham CEVC Primary School for welcoming us so warmly. We loved spending time with the children and sharing a little piece of Rymer Farm with them.
We look forward to more visits like this and continuing to champion the value of farm education for future generations.
